Stephanie
Beauregard, a December 2004 graduate of the Darton Medical Laboratory Technology
Collaborative Program with Georgia Highlands College, obtained the highest
score on the ASCP National Board Exam of any program graduate in the MLT
program's thirty-year history. The student scored in excess of 800
points on an exam requiring 400 as a minimum to pass.
"The Darton online MLT program enabled me to work full time and attend labs locally, and in the evening fitted in with my schedule. The program allowed me to maximize my time by accessing the lectures online without lost time commuting to and from college campus. Labs were once a week and I was able to bring questions about the material and have explained to my better understanding and satisfaction."
Things became a little crazier when my daughter was born in October, and I had to revamp my schedule between work, family life, and school. In February I deployed to Iraq for six months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom which I was honored to be a part of. Our mission was to support combat losses of equipment in both Iraq and Afghanistan and that mission kept us busy. But with online classes I was able to work during my free time and at nights to finish five classes towards my degree while I was there. Darton's instructors and administrators (especially Ms. Carol Ann Ham) were extremely helpful in aiding me due to my extreme difference in time zones and my ever changing work pace. Without online classes and Darton College there is no way that I would be able to work towards finishing my degree while in the Marine Corps due to the nature of our mission. I strongly recommend Darton College to other working adults and military personnel as a great way to further their education while keeping pace with their busy schedules.”
Eager to start learning, I enrolled in two online classes at Darton College. Since I lacked the stamina to drive to school every day, taking the classes online solved that problem. Still, attending college was a risky move, considering the extent of my brain injury, but I wanted to try. I admit, my anxiety level was high the first day of class, but when I saw there was unlimited access to the material, the typed lectures, and the videos lectures, I calmed down. I was able to review lectures as many times as I needed, plus email the instructors if I had any questions. In addition, the tools and activities associated with the courses such as games, puzzles, quizzes, links, websites, and group discussions not only helped me retain the material, they also helped me comprehend the subjects. I spent a lot of time online, but my efforts paid off. The results were amazing because my comprehension and recall excelled beyond expectations. By the end of the semester, I earned A’s in both classes, which proved to me that the hard work and the long hours I spent online in class was worth all my efforts. That was two years ago and since then I have taken all my classes online earning a 3.82 G.P.A. I attribute my success in college to taking my classes online rather than in the traditional classroom. I am 50 years old now and I have the chance to live a better life because of the opportunities to take college level courses through Darton Online.”
