Borrowing Regulations for Students

You must present your Darton Library/ID Card in order to borrow materials.

The Darton Library/ID Card is nontransferable and is valid at the Circulation Desk

If your Darton Library/ID Card is lost or stolen, notify the Circulation Desk as soon as possible

Normally, books charged to Students have a loan period of 28 days (4 Weeks).

A patron is responsible for all items checked out in his/her name until those items clear our Circulation Desk. Until they are cleared by our Circulation Desk, books left in the Public Library book drops remain the patron's responsibility.  Books left in the Public Library book drops may not be returned immediately to Circulation; possibly incurring overdue fines.

Regular overdue fines are 10 cents per day per item.  Books are due by closing on the date that appears on the patron’s record.  Overdue fines are not charged for dates that the Library is closed.

Overdue notices and fine bills are sent to the address in the patron’s record in the Circulation system.  These notices are sent as a courtesy; failure to receive them does not absolve one from library obligations.  Overdue items, outstanding fines or other obligations may result in the suspension of library privileges and/or the flagging of College records.  For further information please see FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS TO THE COLLEGE.

Updating a patron's address with any other department of the College does not automatically update the Library's record, therefore, the patron is responsible for notifying the Circulation Desk if his/her address changes.

As long as a book has not been recalled or put on hold items may be renewed two times by bringing them into the library or by going to https://gil.darton.edu/  and viewing your account information.  Items charged out manually need to be returned to the library for renewal. These charges may not appear online.  Items CANNOT be renewed over the phone.

A patron with an Darton Library barcode may request a hold or recall on items that are charged out to another patron.

The loan period of items recalled by other users is shortened.  Items being recalled by another patron should be returned as soon as possible.

Items that are on hold or recalled by another patron may NOT be renewed.

Students currently enrolled in Darton College have access to Interlibrary Loan to order materials not available in the Darton collection and access to the off-campus GALILEO Password.

A patron who suspects that an item charged out in his/her name has been lost should report it as soon as possible to the Circulation Desk

A patron who loses an item is responsible for reimbursing the Library for the replacement cost and any special processing fees.  If the book is found later and returned in good condition, the price of the book is refundable. The processing fee is not refundable.

Patrons are responsible for the proper care of items that they have charged out.  The cost of repair or replacement of damaged items will be billed to the borrower.

Please see
General Policies for information on Searching Books (if not found on the designated shelf), Lost Books, Damaged Books, etcetera.

Rules and regulations of The Darton College Library are to be followed.  Failure to do so may result in the suspension of patron borrowing privileges and/or flagging of College records.
